DOCKYARD Wins German Design Award 2026

Our project in Berlin has been honored with the German Design Award 2026 in the category “Excellent Architecture – Public”. The Winner distinction recognizes architectural achievements that are considered groundbreaking within their category—celebrating design quality, innovation, and long-term sustainability.

Constructed as a hybrid timber building, Dockyard sets new benchmarks for sustainable architecture. Generous glass façades create a sense of transparency and lightness, while landscaped rooftop terraces and lobbies featuring floor-to-ceiling art installations contribute to an exceptional atmosphere.

The energy concept is as visionary as the architecture itself: a 100-meter-long ice-storage system housed in a decommissioned railway tunnel, combined with more than 1,200 m² of solar hybrid collectors, supplies the building with renewable energy from geothermal sources, solar radiation, and ambient air—enabling fully carbon-neutral operation.

Special thanks go to Tchoban Voss Architekten, whose distinctive design powerfully showcases the site’s prime location directly on the River Spree. We look forward to the award ceremony next year in Frankfurt am Main.
